Regiment graduates

The Zimbabwe National Army’s
Mounted Regiment has significantly contributed to the reduction of border jumping along the borders.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony of two groups of 68 soldiers who underwent a 20-week equitation course in Harare last Friday,
Two
Brigade
Deputy Commander Lieutenant Colonel Brave Matavire, who officiated at the ceremony, said the regiment was undertaking border
control operations in Beitbridge and Plumtree.

"Of late the regiment has deployed a unit on border control operations in Beitbridge and Plumtree and reports proved that the presence of
horses in border control operations yielded fruits as the rate of border jumping has dropped significantly," said Lt. Col Matavire.

He said border control operations do not only lessen cases of border jumping but also enhance and cement relations with Zimbabwe
Republic Police and other security agencies.

The equitation riding course is a comprehensive package, which covers subjects such as horsemanship skills, first aid, field craft, civic
education and map reading among others.

Troopers Lawrence Gombe and David Tembo emerged overall best students of the first and second groups respectively and were
immediately conferred with their new ranks of Lance Corporal. — HR
