President elevates 40 ZNA officers

PRESIDENT Mugabe has promoted 40 Zimbabwe National Army officers to the ranks of brigadier general, colonel and lieutenant colonel
with effect from August 15. The Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces promoted Augustine Chipwere, Morgan Munawa
and Cellestino Basera to the rank of Brigadier Generals.

Those promoted to Colonels are Adonis Ndlovu, Tonderai Kahuni, Francis Chakauya and Kennedy Makavanga. Thirty-three officers were
promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonels. Three women, Majors Winnet Murota, Sylvia Gurure and Emily Gapare were among the officers
promoted to lieutenant colonels. Speaking at the conferment of the brigadier general ranks yesterday, ZNA commander
Lieutenant-General Phillip Valerio Sibanda said the officers should continue displaying high levels of exemplary behaviour and hard work.
"It is your hard work that has made it possible for you to be promoted from being colonels to brigadier generals. I hope you will continue
exhibiting your high standard of work and discipline," he said. Lt Gen Sibanda urged the newly promoted brigadier generals to maintain the
hard work to be elevated to other levels Conferring ranks to the new colonels, Chief of Staff-General Staff Major General Martin Chedondo
said the officers should continue to safeguard Zimbabwe's sovereignty.
"You have reached the apex of the senior officers' rank. It is our hope that you continue working hard and safeguard the sovereignty of our
country. You should not be apologetic to defend the gains of the liberation struggle," he said.
