| 18 regimental accountants graduate Tuesday, May 15, 2007 Herald Reporters EIGHTEEN regimental accountants graduated at the Pay Corps Training School in Harare on Friday after completing a five-week course in accounting for non-public funds. Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the director of army finance, Colonel Thando Madzvamuse, urged the graduands to make use of the knowledge and skills that they had gained on the course. He said the course would help them understand the intricacies on non-public funds accounts and help them to effectively discharge their duties. "Such knowledge not only empowers you to be effective managers, but also trainers of your unit accounts clerks. You are now the torchbearers of your respective units in this field," said Col Madzvamuse. He said the training that the officers received was a deterrent measure to those who would want to defraud and misappropriate army funds. Col Madzvamuse urged the officers not to misuse their newly attained status as fundis in the area of accounts to dip into non-public funds fraudulently. He said they should not mislead their commanding officers into believing that all was well when they were actually defrauding messes or stealing regimental institute funds. "I urge you to desist from engaging in such unethical activities and I also urge you to assist your commanding officers in maintaining up-to-date and correctly accounted non-public funds," said Col Madzvamuse. Lieutenant Ezekiel Tapfumanei of 12 Infantry Battalion was the best student while Lieutenant Nathan Zireva of 53 Infantry Battalion came second. The aim of the course was to impart knowledge and skills for the accounting of regimental funds in the army. |
