| ‘Training key to disciplined force’ Monday, December 18, 2006 Herald Reporter TRAINING is the cornerstone of a skilled and a well-disciplined force prepared to defend the country’s sovereignty, a senior army officer has said. Presidential Guard Commander Colonel Anselem Sanyatwe said this last Friday at the graduation of 131 Zimbabwe National Army troops who underwent a physically and mentally challenging two-month general squad drill course at Mutoko Barracks. "As you go back to your respective units, I urge you to put to good use the knowledge and experience you have just acquired here. " Suffice to mention that your success in this course coupled with your dedication to your work will see you being rewarded," he said. Col Sanyatwe also urged the graduates to lead by example and implored them to uphold their achievements and strive to attend more courses. General squad drill course is mandatory to all non-commissioned army officers. Lance Corporal George Mukanda of 21-infantry battalion emerged the best student, while Shatari Raphinos of the Paramilitary Regiment scooped the second best student prize. Lance Corporal Granger Walter of Military Intelligence Department clinched the third best prize. The course started with 133 students and two dropped out. The course covered aspects such as foot and arms, drill military and civic education package, military law and quarter guard among others courses "We endured the harsh conditions and I must say they are necessary in the development of our personnel for total defence of our air space," he said. Nine recruits received awards of excellence in different disciplines. David Gomo was named Best Student as AFZ Gunner, while Amos Ndlovu was the Best Student from the ZNA and Calvin Muduma received the Command Officer Best Student Award. |
